Group Captain Madhusudan Banerjee (13400) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the fighter steam of flying branch of the Indian Air Force on 21 June 1973. During his long service he has excelled in many fields. He has flown over 3500 hrs of accident-free flying on eight types of fighters. He is a QFI and a FCL who had the distinction of being on staff at TACDE. Group Captain M Banerjee successfully commanded a fighter squadron and is an Electronic Warfare expert.

Group Captain M Banerjee has been the Station Commander of an Air Defence Direction Centre (ADDC) since 11 Nov 96. With his personal involvement and dynamic leadership Group Captain M Banerjee has ensured high degree of operational readiness and serviceability of all technical assets of the Station. His inquisitive intellect and perseverance unravelled an intricate incident which resulted in identifying individuals who attempted sabotage on an aircraft. He has also paid special attention to security of this important ADDC. Through efforts of Station personnel, he effected substantial saving in expenditure for works services. His concern for the welfare of subordinates has been evident by many improvements in the messes, billets, shopping complex and by construction of additional sports facilities. This aspect has been especially recognised by the DASI, who have assessed the unit as average plus in March 1998. Group Captain M Banerjee has consistently displayed exemplary zeal, leadership and vision.

For a distinguished service of a high order, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain M Banerjee.

Air Commodore Madhusudan Banerjee VSM (13400) F (P) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force on 02 June 1973. He has held several important command and staff appointments that include Directing Staff at TACDE, command of a MiG-27 fighter squadron and command of an ADDC. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor, a graduate of DSSC and an electronic warfare expert. He was awarded VSM in 1999 for distinguished service. Air Cmde Banerjee has been the Station Commander of a front line flying Station since 26 Dec 2000. In this period, the officer has exhibited top leadership qualities, and with personal motivation and dedication he has ensured a very high state of operational preparedness of the Station. Serviceability state of the aircraft and other technical assets of the Station has perpetually remained high. A striking feature of the officer's achievement has been his ability to achieve results at minimal cost and through ingenious methods and innovative ideas. The Station security, which has always remained threatened due to proximity to Rann of Kutch, has been ensured through well thought out security measures, constant vigil and with the availability of an agile and ready counter force.

The Station had to bear the extra squadron for over an year, post 26 Jan 2001 earthquake, which rendered the neighbouring airfield of Bhuj in a despicable state, necessitating shift of fighter squadron. The Station managed the extra task admirably and sustained the morale of all its personnel at a height level through practical welfare measures and team spirit. The flight safety record of the Station has been noteworthy with all around attention being paid to safe operation through aircrew indoctrination, better time management and sound supervision. On declaration of 'Op Parakraman' the Station ensured smooth induction of additional forces and through proper handling and proactive approach the Station reached the requisite preparedness within the shortest possible time.

For exceptional devotion to duty, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Air Commodore Madhusudan Banerjee VSM.

Air Commodore Madhusudan Banerjee VM, VSM (13400) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force on 02 June 1973. He has held several important Command and Staff appointments that include Directing Staff at the Tactics and Combat Development Establishment, Comm and of a fighter squadron, Command of an Air Defence Direction Centre, Command of a front line flying station and Principal Director Flight Safety at Air HQ. He is also a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Electronics Warfare expert. He was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal for exceptional devotion to duty in 1999 and Vayu Sena Medal for distinguished service of a high order in 2003.

The Air Officer has been Air Officer Commanding of a premier flying Station since 11 October 2004. In this period he has exhibited exceptional leadership qualities and ensured a very high state of operational preparedness of the Station. During this period the station inducted and operationalised the SU-30 MKI Phase III aircraft in a short span of six months. The flying efforts increased substantially despite a manifold increase in civil aircraft operations on a 24 hours basis. There was a noticeable reduction in aircraft incidents, especially related to Foreign Object Damage, which contributed towards tremendous cost savings.

A striking feature of the officer's achievement has been his ability to obtain results at minimal cost through ingenious methods and innovative ideas. The Station has managed extra tasks most admirably and sustained the morale of all its personnel at a very high level through superlative welfare measure, Noteworthy has been the extensive repair and renovation of a large number of old and dilapidated buildings as Temporary Married Quarters for airmen. This led to an appreciable improvement in the overall quality of life on the Station. The Air Officer has consistently displayed extraordinary zeal, enthusiasm, leadership and vision.

Air Commodore Madhusudan Banerjee VM, VSM has thus rendered distinguished service of an exceptional order.
