|Details :|| Wing Commander Ravi Gopal Krishna Kapoor (18253) Flying (Pilot) is the Commanding Officer (CO) of MiG-21 Squadron since Jun 2003. He is an A2 Qualified Flying Instructor and a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College. He has served as a flying instructor at the Fighter Training Wing and Flying Instructors' School. The officer has earlier been commended by the Chief of Air Staff in 1996 and by the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, in 1992.
During his tenure as CO, he has led from the front, himself flying close to 450 hours in less than two years and getting high Individual grading by all inspection teams. The Aircrew Examining Board (AEB) has declared him Type Examiner, which Is a rare privilege. Being in charge of a Mig Operational Flying Training (MOFT) squadron, the officer has dedicated himself to the cause of aircrew training. His squadron was assessed 'Exceptional' in Ground Subjects during all visits by the AEB and the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection. Under his stewardship, the squadron has flown over 5000 sorties - the maximum during the period amongst all MOFT units in the East. The squadron's track record of accident free flying during his tenure, bears testimony to his untiring efforts. Under his supervision, his squadron achieved 100% serviceability and took on rectification of major snags that normally require third and fourth line activity. Many innovations, like fuel sample trolley, aircraft washing rig and tachogene tester, were successfully fabricated and put to use, saving precious resources.
While according very high priority to quality training and to maintenance of operational readiness of the squadron, he never lost sight of morale and welfare of squadron personnel. This indefatigable officer demonstrated an exceptional capacity to work methodically under conditions of severe crises and stress. His managerial and inter-personal skills are of a very high order. He has been able to motivate all his officers and PBORs towards better work output by using a judicious mix of reward and example. He is highly professional, creative and service oriented. He exudes zeal for innovation and modernization. He has submitted valuable papers on 'Debrief tools for MiG-21 training' and 'Vision 2020' for an Air Force Station.
For exceptional devotion to duty and leadership, The Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Wing Commander Ravi Gopal Krishna Kapoor.
