Air Cmde | Amit Dev | 16972 F(P) | Award Date 26 Jan 2010 | Announced 26 Jan 2010 |
Details : | Air Commodore Amit Dev (16972) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the IAF as a fighter pilot in the Flying Branch on 29 Dec 1982 and has been on the posted strength of the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection (DASI) since 21 May 07. The officer has approximately 2500 hrs of accident free fighter flying experience. He is a Fighter Strike Leader, an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College and a graduate of Higher Air Command Course. He has commanded a frontline fighter squadron and a premier signals unit. He singlehandedly planned and executed the IAF's first ever trans-Atlantic deployment of fighter aircraft to Alaska (USA) for Exercise Cope Thunder-04. He was the Chief Operations Officer and the Air Refueling Director for the deployed forces. This deployment showcased India's strategic reach and the performances of the IAF was well appreciated by all participating nations. The officer is now posted to take over a frontline flying base. He has been commended by the CAS on 26 Jan 95. During the present tenure as Director Air Staff Inspection, the officer has been an effective leader of the flying team that inspects flying bases and squadrons. With his management skills and very good planning, he has been able to significantly increase the number of inspections undertaken by the Directorate. Along with combat units, he also planned inspections of units like HQ Maritime Air Operations, Advance HQs and Tactical Air Centres that are vital for prosecution of Joint Operations with the Army and Navy. During the inspections he has flown almost all types of fighter and trainer aircraft to assess the combat performance of the flying elements as well as the allied ground and support services. He has utilised his wide ranging experience in Air Defence and Ground Attack to impart invaluable knowledge to the flying squadrons and combat operators especially those employed in Terminal Weapons Control. Under his leadership and guidance the inspection teams have identified systemic problems in the field related to flying, maintenance and environment, which has enabled the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection to act as a facilitator in enhancing operational capability of the IAF. He also headed a team that has completed a Process Based Audit (PBA) of Maps in the IAF. His dedicated effort and initiative has been instrumental in ensuring thought provoking and high quality professional expression of ideas in the 'AirWarrior' journal published by the Directorate. Lastly, he planned and conducted a very successful Air Force level 'Air Power Seminar'. For his outstanding professional competence, dedication and distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Air Commodore Amit Dev. | |||
