Flt Lt “Joe” Acharya at Halwara in 1952. Joe was my good friend. He had been awarded the trophy for the best pilot in his course. He later became a flying instructor and was killed in a tragic accident. While instructing a pupil in a Harvard during takeoff, he was hit from behind by the wing of another Harvard taking off in the grass lane adjacent to his. He was killed instantly.I had the sad duty of doing his “Committee of Adjustment”. This meant that I gathered his earnings and paid his debts. I delivered his belongings to his parents.
