Details : | Group Captain Rakesh Marwaha (15865) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned as a Fighter Pilot in the IAF on 14 Dec 1979. In his 28 years of distinguished service, he has held several field and staff appointments that include Commanding Officer of MiG 23 BN Squadron and Chief Operations Officer of Air Force Station, Halwara. His squadron participated in the Kargil Operations and performed creditably under his command. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and was a member of the prestigious "Thunderbolts" aerobatic display team of the IAF He is a graduate of DSSC and was the first Officer in the IAF to be nominated to undergo a one year orientation course in Nuclear Sciences at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre following which he was posted as Director Nuclear Biological and Chemical warfare at Air HQ. He was awarded Commendation by the CAS in 1997. He is presently working as Director Tactical Operations at Air HQs since 03 Jul 2006. Gp Capt Marwaha has always worked towards improving the operational efficiency of the IAF. With his knowledge, initiative, foresight and intelligence he has contributed handsomely towards meticulous analysis of all issues which have long term implication for the IAF and its defence strategy. He has been actively involved in formulating the plan for basing IAF operational assets keeping in view the future operational needs. These plans will enhance the war fighting potential of the IAF Under his leadership two important international exercises, Indradhanush-06 at Gwalior and Indradhanush-07 in United Kingdom, were conducted with the Royal Air Force. He was closely involved with the planning and execution of the exercises and ensured their safe conduct achieving all the laid down objectives. The exercises were of immense learning value for both the Air Forces and their successful conduct reflects the professional acumen of the Officer. Gp Capt Marwaha utilized his vast knowledge on operational aspects of the IAF to carry out a comprehensive review of all Air Staff Instructions and Orders pertaining to Jaguar, Mig 27 and Mig 21M aircraft. This review will substantially improve the operational training of the IAF by aligning training objectives with the changed operational environment. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Rakesh Marwaha. | |||
