| Flt. Lt. Bopanna was part of No.12 SQN posted at Agra. His SQN CO was Wg. Cdr. Sardar Amanullah Khan [4424 F(P)]Dt. of Death: 30 June 1969 at 16:05 hrs. (as per death certificate issued by IAF).-------Circumstances of death/accident: He was the pilot in command of the aircraft (Fairchild Packet C-119) that took-off from Nagpur and was returning to Agra.His co-pilot was Fg. Offr. Phiroz Jehangir Irani [8187, F(P)].Near Agra they encountered bad weather and were caught in a severe dust storm. They were asked by ATC to divert to Jaipur but the aircraft broke-up mid air and crashed, killing all on-board. |
