Details : Air Commodore Reetinder Singh Sodhi (15693) Flying (Pilot)was commissioned in the Fighter Stream on 15 Jun 79 and is on the posted strength of Directorate of Aerospace Safety since 01 Jul 09. The officer has more than 2600 hrs of flying experience. He is a Qualified flying Instructor, an alumnus of both Defence Services Staff College and College of Defence Management. The officer has commanded a Guided Weapon Squadron and has also performed the duties of Directing Staff at College of Air warfare and College of Defence Management. His ability to impart and guide the minds of young commanders to focus towards good operational solutions was noteworthy. Additionally, during his command of a front line Tactical Air Centre the unit was assessed 'Above the Average' by Dte of Air Staff Inspection. He has been commended by the chief of the integrated staff in 2009. During the present tenure as Director Aerospace Safety the officer has been entrusted with the responsibility of prevention of accidents/incidents. Armed with his professional knowledge and experience, the officer has been instrumental in leading many recent initiatives taken by the Directorate of Aerospace Safety. These initiatives have resulted in reducing the accident rates after a steady rise during the past three years. Some of the initiatives like Air Force System of Error Management, Environment Management of Airfield Area, Anti Bird Modules and stringent Anti Foreign Object Damage measures have been very effective in producing desired results. In the last one and a half year, he has also headed Interaction visits to various flying stations to check Compliance and Performance. During these visits he imparts valuable knowledge to the field units and sets high professional standards to achieve high degree of aerospace safety thus achieve operational goals of the IAF. He has also been actively involved in shaping the Accident Probability Factor model which has been recently introduced in IAF. The officer was nominated as Organising Secretary of the International Flight Safety Conference conducted by the JAF. With his extremely effective and a dynamic leadership, the Conference was meticulously planned, organised and flawlessly conducted. Additionally, the officer has efficiently managed the budget pertaining to Aerospace Safety. He has been able to effectively utilize the allocated funds with no wasteful expenditure. For distinguished service of high order, displaying a very high degree of professionalism, initiative, leadership and total dedication to service Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Air Commodore Reetinder Singh Sodhi.
