AFS Jalahalli was setup in 1941 as a PoW camp which was a few years later converted into a large hospital for British soldiers. This gave it the nickname, Hospital Town. The AFS was formally setup on 1 Feb 1948 with two loder units. A recruits Training Center (including the one from lahore which was merged) and No. 1 GTS which had moved from Secunderabad. 1 GTS was setup in 1943 as Non Technical Training Center at Walton and had moved to Secunderabad. The station currently has CTI, ETI, E&ITI, 16 TETTRA School, IWS and LTI as lodger units.... Read More

Air Force Technical College was established on 4 July 1949, in collaboration with Air Service Ltd, Hamble, UK. The college was named Technical Training College and the entire staff of the college at that time comprised officers and technicians from the Royal Air Force. The sleepy hospital town of Jalahalli, mostly consisting of World War Il army barracks occupied by Italian prisoners-of-war, was transformed into "Technical Training College" The British staff were gradually replaced by Indian personnel during the early 50s. On I January 1957, the college was renamed Air Force Technical College. The role of the college is to train graduate engineers inducted into the IAF to enable them to maintain various aircraft and weapon system as also various support systems in operational readiness. Guided Weapon Training Institute. located at Makarpura Palace, vadodara, is at present the only institute of its kind in the Indian Air Force. which trains Officers and airmen on Surface to Air guided weapon systems. It was originally formed as No 7 Ground Training School in 1963, to impart specialist training to Officers and Airmen, for operation and maintenance on DIVINA Missile System. In 1976, the Units was christened as No I Guided Weapon Training Institute. The specialist training on DIVINA missile system ceased in 1988. In 1990, the institute began imparting specialist training on operation and maintenance of OSA-AK. Training on operation and maintenance of IGLA system also started two years later in 1992. 2206 Sqn was formed in 1976 at Barrackpore as 8 GTS to impart training on SA-3. In 1980 the Units was restrcutured as 2 GWTI. In March 1988 the squdron moved to 25 Wing, Rajokri. It had the task of training all the combat and maintenance crew.
