19 FBSU, AF was raised on the southern bank of river Shyok, the valley bound by the Saltoro and Ladakh ranges. The elevation o Thoise is 10,066 ft AMSL The genesis of Thoise airfield dates back to 1960 when kuttcha landing strip was made on the initiative of Mr. RD Menon, who was then Asst " "Commandant Slubra. -Approximately-500 men worked daily without wages under the guidance of " "Mohd Hassan, a resident of Bogdung village. Col Rinchin M VC and Bar of 14 J & K Militia and his " "men were also involved in the development of the ALG at Thoise. 19 FBSU was formed at Thoise on " "10 Dec 1990.
