Group Captain Amrish Kumar was commissioned on 01 Apr 68 in the Engineering Branch of the IAF. He has held the appointment of Deputy Director of Tele Communications at Air Headquarters (VB). He is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College. Gp Capt Kumar was appointed the Commanding Officer of Air Force Signals Centre (AFSC) on 27 May 93. Distributed Message Switching System (DMSS) was inducted at AFSC in Sep 92. Gp Capt Kumar noticed several flaws in the working of this system and brought about modifications in the software of the system which enhanced its working efficiency and resulted in an annual savings of almost 6-7 lakhs rupees.

AFSC during his tenure has been able to undertake unique tasks to improve communications links of Communication Squadron using an old vintage type of Radio equipment. Under supervision of Gp Capt Amrish Kumar the AFSC successfully undertook the additional task of repairing the Secrecy Device Equipment, which has helped in maintaining the secrecy of vital communications and resulted in saving of precious foreign exchange.

For distinguished service of a high order, the President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Gp Capt Amrish Kumar.
