Wing Commander (Mrs.) Vijay Lakshmi Ramanan (4971) was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 22nd August, 1955 and was seconded to the Air Force with effect from the same day.

Since 1956 to date she has served as a Gynecologist in almost all the Air Force Hospitals. She was posted to Air Force Hospital, Bangalore with effect from 1st May, 1968 as Senior Gynecologist and Obstetrician in the Family Wing of the hospital. Families Wing of the Air Force Hospital Bangalore is very heavily worked section of the hospital. More often than not Wing Commander (Mrs.) Ramanan has looked after this section single handed as a gynecologist. She has acquired commendable degree of skill and has handled the work of this section most admirably. To achieve this she has been on call every night and every holiday and Sundays without caring for personal comforts.

She has taken special interest in family planning work and guided the lady doctors of the defence installation in Bangalore to accelerate the pace of the task in hand. She has set apart special period weekly for undertaking sterilization thus achieving the figures far beyond the targets.

For he single minded devotion to duty and organizing medical services for ladies and children of the defence services personnel attending Air Force Hospital, Bangalore, Wing Commander (Mrs.) Vijay Lakshmi Ramanan is awarded Vishisht Seva Medal.

Group Captain Ujjal Singh Pruthi was commissioned in the Medical Branch of the Indian Air force in February, 1958. Having Served as General Duty Medical Officer at various Air Force units for five year, he specialised in advanced surgery through a course of nearly 13 months duration. Later, he also underwent a short course in Aviation Medicine.

As a surgeon of repute, Group Captain Pruthi not only gained valuable experience in appointment of his specialisation at various Service hospitals but also set up a high record performance thereby earning the appreciation of the patient who went through him as well as his superior officer in the Branch.

The exceptional professional skill and decimation of this officer found him, in course of time, performing valued and diversified duties as an adviser, post graduate teacher, university examiner and clinical surgeon. He has consistently displayed trem endous capacity for sustained hard work of high clinical caliber, cheerful disposition and commendable degree of compassion for patients under his care.

During his present tenure with Air Force Command Hospital, the Officer has organized a dedicated, well-knit and highly efficient surgical team under his stewardship which can be pride of any medical institution.

For his outstanding professional acumen, devotion to duty and exceptional clinical service to the patient community, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Ujjal Singh Pruthi.

Wing Commander Sudhanshu Kumar Adaval joined the Armed Forces in 1962, after having obtained MD in Pathology & Bacteriology and having worked as a teacher in Pathology for 3 years at MGM Medical College, Indore. He was one of the first few postgraduates in Pathology in the Armed Forces in 1962. Soon after commissioning, he was graded as a Pathologist and was given the task of starting a Pathology Laboratory for the Air Force.

In 1968, while posted at AF Hospital, Secunderabad, Wg Cdr SK Adaval coordinated single-handed the handing over of the Military Hospital, Bangalore to the Air Force. He was appointed Classified Specialist in Pathology as well as Post Intermediate Teacher of the Pune University.

While posted to Air Force Hospital Kanpur, during 1974-76, he trained Medical Assistants for participation in the InterCommand Technical Training Competitions. While posted at the Institute of Aviation Pathology and as a Member of the Faculty of Medicine, he carried out several AFMRC research projects in addition to devoting himself to work in his own field.

In 1981, Wg Cdr SK Adaval was specially selected, from South East Asia, for a World Health Organisation Fellowship in Laboratory Quality Control Studies and was trained in some of the prestigious institutions of the world. In 1982 Wg Cdr SK Adaval was associated with the medical fitness criteria of the Indian Cosmonauts for the Project Pawan and was the chief coordinator for medical fitness of a large number of candidates.

For his exceptional academic attainments, outstanding performance in the field of Aviation Pathology and commendable contribution to the Project Pawan, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Wing Commander Sudhanshu Kumar Adaval.

Gp Capt Nallavandu Bhaskar Amaresh 12464 MEDUnit : CAFH  Award Date 26 Jan 90 Announced 26 Jan 90
Details :

Group Captain Nallavandu Bhaskar Amaresh, Medical Senior Adviser in Surgery and Paediatric Surgery, joined the Air Force on 29 Mar 63. He was a member of Auxiliary Air Force and earned his wings in 1960 on qualifying as a pilot. He continued to fly as a pilot in the Air Force actively till Dec 1977.

During the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, he was the surgeon at AF Hospital, Kanpur and organized and managed 420 battle casualties most professionally and efficiently. During his present tenure in Command Hospital, AF Bangalore as Senior Advisor in Surgery and Paeditatric Surgery, he has been responsible for a number of innovative improvements in the Department of Surgery.

The task of surgical management of over 450 battle casualties of 'OP PAWAN' received at Command Hospital AF was entrusted to him. He organized his surgical team to receive and manage casualties round the clock without respite.

For the outstanding services rendered, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Gp Capt Nallavandu Bhaskar Amaresh.
