Details : | Flight Lieutenant Hitendra Singh Chimni was commissioned in Administrative Branch of the Indian Air Force in June, 1964. During the operations against Pakistan in December, 1971, he was employed on Air Traffic Control at a forward air base in the Western Sector. Throughout the operations he maintained a very high standard in controlling extremely heavy air traffic by devising and efficiently introd ucing new methods. He also handled many emergencies with great presence of mind and controlled heavy air traffic, at times upto forty aircraft with varying state of fuel, armament and even battle casualties. He excelled in the utilisation of Ground Control Approach radar as an early warning system and at many times succeeded in detecting hostile aircraft movements which could not be noticed by other types of radars. He also commanded Platoons of Defence Security Corp and in a short time introduced new methods of training on anti-commando/ infiltrator technique and transformed them from peace time pole into an integral part of the ground defence system during the operations. Flight Lieutenant Hitendra Singh Chimni displayed organising ability dedication to duty and professional skill a high order and thereby rendered distinguished service beyond the normal call of duty. He is awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal. | |||
