Group Captain Sivaramannair Kesavan Nair was commissioned in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) Branch of the Indian Air Force in January, 1950. He has successfully held a variety of important technical appointments. Since August, 1971, he has been in command of a Base Repair Depot. The Depot under the inspiring leadership of Sivaramannair Kesavan Nair considerably increased its production rate of a particular type of aircraft engine. Several other urgent tasks allotted to this Depot were successfully completed. This Depot also provided engineering support for the repair of specialist equipment urgently required for operational aircraft.

Throughout, Group Captain Sivaramannair Kesavan Nair has rendered distinguished service of an exceptional order.

My Father, Air Cmde S.K. Nair, AVSM served in the Mechanical Engineering branch of the IAF. Commissioned into the IAF on Republic Day 1950. He earned advanced degrees in aeronautical engineering while studying at Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK in the late 50's and later served on numerous Flight Safety boards investigating the frequent crashes of IAF planes in the 70's. He served with distinction being the Commanding Officer of No 4 BRD (1971-74, Chakeri, Kanpur) for which he was awarded the AVSM by the President following the 71 war, to his last post where he was the Dean at the Institute of Armament Technology, Pune (1977-79)He was killed in a civilian plane crash (Indian Airlines) on August 4, 1979
