Details : Squadron Leader Gopalakrishnan Jayachandran (28293) was commissione in the Indian Air Force in the Administrative branch on 18 Dec 2004. He has held the appointment of Squadron Commander Music Training Squadron at Communication Training Institute, Bangalore prior to assuming his present appointment as Director of Music and Principal Conductor for No. 1 Air Force Band, Air Warriors Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) Sqn Ldr Jayachandran was given the difficult task of training the musicians and conduct of the AWSO concerts. Within a short span, Sqn Ldr Jayachandran undertook the responsibility with full zest and produced high quality concerts. He was solely responsible for the excellent standards that the musicians achieved and the success of AWSO concerts. Under his leadership, AWSO has carried out over 40 performances in India and abroad. He was solely responsible for success of AWSO at Germany, France, Italy, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He was also responsible for ensuring that new tunes are performed for concerts every year. In addition to concerts, he also ensured successful participation of musicians of AWSO in various ceremonial commitments, Republic Day Parade and Beating The Retreat ceremony. Sqn Ldr Jayachandran has been instrumental in composing many martial tunes for the IAF which are played during various ceremonial functions. His recent compositions include, "Bravo Warriors", "Flying Star'" "Battle of the Sky" (Quick March), "Stride".(Slow March) and "Republic Day Parade & Beating The Retreat, 2014. He has also composed new background music for Air Force Song, Air Warrior Drill Team & PT display. He has been the Principal Conductor for Beating The Retreat ceremony three times and every time the officer's performance was highly appreciated by the President of India. His composition 'Rejoice in Raisina' won accolades of all the high dignitaries witnessing "beating The Retreat 2014" and found a special mention in the media coverage. The officer has been closely associated with induction and training of musicians in the [AE He is only officer Qualified on music in the IAF who has been at the helm of affairs of the Air Force Bands and success of the AWSO. His advice on all the matters pertaining to the administration of AF Bands and musicians is well appreciated. For his pioneering innovative work, excellent contribution to the music in the IAF and distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Squadron Leader Gopalakrishnan Jayachandran.
