Details : Group Captain Navjot Singh Bhinder (24484) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force a fighter pilot on 21 Jun 97 and is commanding a MiG-21 Bison Squadron at a premier IAF base. The officer is a Cat A Qualified Flying Instructor and Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner (IRIE). He has served as a Directing Staff at Flying Instructor School for three years. He has 3000 hrs plus of fighter flying with 2700 sorties on Mig 21 ac. The officer is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington. Despite the age of the fleet, he ensured efficient management of resources to maintain healthy aircraft availability on the flight line. In last one year, the Sqn has flown much beyond the monthly average task; and has achieved a significant percentage of night flying as well. Personally, he has flown over 365 sorties in the last one year and under his command the squadron achieved a large number of upgradations. The officer took up the challenge of improving the weapon delivery accuracy of the Bison aircraft. The Sqn won four trophies including the overall championship in the WAC Gunnery Meet, Ex Eklavya 2015. He ensured strict supervision and very high professional standards in the aircrew as well as ground crew which contributed to a good aerospace safety record of the Squadron. On 13 Jul 15, the officer successfully carried out a forced landing of a BISON aircraft with a 'dead' engine which amplifies his excellent flying skills and professionalism. The performance of the Sqn aircrew during AEB inspection has also been Above Average. The Sqn was adjudged as Best Fighter Sqn of WAC for the year 2015-16. The officer actively involves himself in all station activities. His efforts vis-a-vis team building and task accomplishment were par excellence and this ensured smooth conduct of all the Squadron operations. His positive approach and helpful attitude served as an example for others to emulate. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Devotion to Duty) to Group Captain Navjot Singh Bhinder.
