Details : Wing Commander Rosha (24241) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a pilot in flying branch on 21 Dec 96. He is a flying supervisor, and has flown Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-17-1V and Mi-17-V5 aircraft. He has more than 4600 hrs of operational flying to his credit including flying in Op-Triveni, Op-Meghdoot, UNPKF and in the Western, Northern and South Western sectors. He is commanding a frontline Mi-17-V5 Helicopter Unit since 01 Jul 13. During Op-Megh Rahat, on 08 Sep 14, following a catastrophic landslide at Saddal, Pinjar and Panjiara villages near Udhampur the officer was tasked to undertake a daring mission to insert NDRF personnel, their survival gear and essential medical supplies on a ledge, on a hill in an extremely restricted area, which helped provide succour to the needy. Whilst at Srinagar, he was instrumental in rescuing stranded civilians from roof tops at various locations in the city. He carried out a rescue of 150 girls of SKIMS (Shere Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences), that was planned and well executed with precision. Being the Detachment Commander, he relentlessly undertook the most difficult missions of relief supplies and medicine dropping. In addition, he tarmac management and technical support to all heptrs involved in the relief operations attached from Commands / Units outside Western Air Command AOR. During the course of operations, the officer 'successfully evacuated over 1800 people from inaccessible parts of the flooded valley and air dropped 60000 Kgs of relief material. He flew over 150 sorties not withstanding constraints of presence of anti-national elements, aircraft mobbing and high bird activity. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal (Devotion To Duty) To Wing Commander Rosha.
