Details : | Group Captain Nand Kumar Nair (20680) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics)branch on 12 Mar 1990. He is presently serving as Officer Commanding, Test Engineering Squadron (OC TES) at Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE). He has held various important appointments at Electronic Warfare Range (EWR) and has been Directing Staff at various officers training institute. He is a post graduate from Indian Institute of Technology (lIT), Bombay and Birla Institute ofT echnology and Science, Pilani. He is also an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College. Gp Capt NKNair has presented technical papers in intemational conferences, The officer is a conferred scientist and has been awarded the "Best Contributor in Electronic Warfare from Indian Armed Forces" by the Association of Old Crow India Chapter in May 2011. Due to his in-depth professional knowledge on radar and EW systems, he was specially selected as the EW specialist of the IAF for the evaluation of radar and EW systems of the Medium range Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) trials. The high standard of professionalism and efficient conduct of these evaluations has been appreciated by all and brought a good name to the IAF. The officer with his immense professional knowledge of EW has evolved a new methodology to evaluate Counter Measure Dispensing System (CMDS). This has been of immense help in obtaining accurate quantitative data in evaluating the effectiveness of counter measures. The officer has also identified the various problems associated to the programming of the CMDS. This had been a long pending issue for the IAF and its resolution has significantly improved our EW operational capability. He has developed software application for Modelling and Simulation of the system. Based on the studies, new Standard Operation Procedures incorporating the correct programs were formulated and disseminated to all the field units. This effort has contributed immensely to the survivability of our airbome assets in a hostile environment. The officer has played a pivotal role in the developmental and integration trials of almost all the airborne radar and EW systems operated by the IAF today. He was also instrumental in evaluating the ECCM modes of airborne radars which resulted in immense improvement of the radar performance in operational environment. AsOC TES, he has been planning, organizing and ensuring timely and efficient conduct of all trials carried out by ASTE. He has ensured thorough and meticulous conduct of even the most complex trials. With his vast experience and professional competence, the guidance and supervision provided by him has ensured conduct of a large number of complex trials. By his work ethics, he has motivated his sub-ordinates to rise to higher levels of professionalism and commitment as required by the Establishment.
