Details : Wing Commander Sanjai Chauhan (20466) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as fighter pilot in the Flying Branch on 16 Dec 1989. He has been performing the duties of Commanding Officer of a Jaguar squadron since 16 Apr 2007. Wg Cdr Chauhan is a Test Pilot with OS grading, and a Qualified Flying Instructor with over 3400 hrs of flying experience. He has undergone Staff Course abroad. He has also served as an instructor in Air Force Test Pilots School. Under his stewardship, the sqn emerged Second Overall in "Best Fighter Sqn" in WAC in 2007 and 2008, with no HE accident. He has pursued flying task achievement with meticulous planning and foresight, and against monthly task of 235 hrs, the sqn averaged 236 hrs, with night flying of over 15%. Rapid strides have been made towards enhancing degree of op preparedness, with quality flying as a KRA, alongside under training Pilots enhancement of role oriented qualifications of Ops pilots. Under his dynamic leadership, the sqn has put up a display of demonstrated performance on numerous occasions. He led the sqn in two EX EKLAVYA, bagging the Overall championship on both occasions, with four team events in 2007 and three team events in 2008. On both occasions, he led from the front with personal example. In EX ACHOOKVMR with Army, the sqn put up a stellar performance over and above the required mandate by releasing three Laser Guided Bombs (LGB) with immaculate precision. On allotment of Laser Designating Pods (LOP), aircrew training and operationalisation was carried out in record time, and three LGBs were released by day as well as night using LOP with exceptional results during the heavy armament dett in Feb 09. Wg Cdr Chauhan led the fighter flypast on AF Day 07 and 08, and the professional execution was commended by SASO, WAC on both occasions. The sqn also achieved Hi Av and Av Plus assessment during Directorate of Air Staff Inspection and Aircrew Examining Board (AEB) inspection respectively. Wg Cdr Chauhan has ensured a steady improvement in ac serviceability. During his tenure, the Sqn achieved 100% serviceability on five occasions, with 96% serviceability during 21 days armament dett in Feb 09. The sqn has also achieved consistent improvement in discipline standards. He has made rapid strides in improvement in quality of life in the sqn with operationalisation of a modern Flight Complex, numerous works services towards improvement of existing infrastructure, and welfare measures to ensure high morale. Through a responsive administration, he has ensured creation of a working environment conducive to bringing out the best in each air warrior, and the sqn's superlative performance bears testimony to this. On a personal front, Wg Cdr Chauhan is a keen flier, logging almost 700 hrs in the current tenure, and has set high standards in marksmanship and physical fitness. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Wing Commander Sanjai Chauhan.
