Details : Group Captain Sanjay Khanna (19870) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a pilot in the fighter stream on 17 Dec 88. He is presently posted as the Director Personnel Officers (DPO)-1 (Fighters). He has over 2500 hrs of accident/ incident free flying and has been commended twice by the CAS in 2000 and 2010. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and a graduate of the Defence Service Staff Collage, Wellington. He has flown various trainer and fighter aircraft including HPT-32, Kiran, Iskara, MiG-21, and MiG-29 aircraft. He has held the appointments of CO of Fighter Squadron, Joint Director Personnel Officers (JDPO)-1 (Courses) at Air HQ and Station Commander of Air Force Station Naliya. He has also served as Head of Training Team at DSSC, Wellington. As the Station Commander of a flying base, Group Captain Sanjay Khanna has been the epitome of leader of men. Under his command, the projects for induction of a modern radar and Surface to Air Missile system, both of which are a first for the IAF. were handled with complete attention to detail and innovative solutions resulting in the IAF getting its value for money. Technology intensive systems at base such as the Aerostat Unit and Remotely Piloted Aircraft were kept mission effective through his sustained efforts. Due to his able leadership. the base hosted several fighter aircraft detachments where intense flying was managed in an exceptional manner through focus on safety and efficient utilisation of resources. Under his command. this remote station underwent significant improvements in quality of life of personnel and families. Group Captain Sanjay Khanna was the Director for two Electronic Warfare Camps conducted by South Western Air Command. He showcased his professional competence and man-management skills whereby he was able to achieve extreme synergy between the equipment manufacturers, the programmers of Electronic Warfare Range and the operators in the field to identify problem areas. He thereafter chalked out a road map defining tasking and accountability to bring about long term systemic improvement. The team work and methodical approach has paid good dividends in electronic warfare equipment achieving true air and mission worthiness. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Sanjay Khanna.
