Details : Group Captain Achuthan Jayanthan (19497) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in the Logistics branch on 17 Dec 88. The officer is posted as Command Logistics Management Officer (CLMO) at Eastern Air Command wef 02 May 11. In his 23 years of distinguished service, he has held important field and staff appointments that include Lgs Officer of Fighter and Transport bases, Deputy Chief Logistics Officer of two Equipment Depots, Senior Logistics Officer of prestigious Aircraft System Testing Establishment (ASTE) and a front line Fighter base. He has also performed staff appointments at Air HQ and Western Air Command. He graduated from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington in the year 2005. During the devastating earthquake at Bhuj in 2001, he coordinated relief work from the nodal cell at Air HQ. He was commended by the Chief of Air Staff in the year 2002. He also planned and carried out work services for construction of aero engines and drop tanks hangar in the desert terrain. He designed construction of a new Logistics Section which was housed in a temporary building. He was again commended by the Chief of Air Staff in the year 2008 and by the Vice chief of Air Staff in the year 2010. At Eastern Air Command, the officer, with his professional knowledge, foresight, meticulous planning, involvement and never say die attitude has many firsts to his credit. He, with critical Aircraft on Ground (AOG) analysis and excellent liaison with HAL and supply agencies, was able to achieve nil AOGs in Chetek/ Cheetah fleet. The officer, through his hard work and positive attitude, was instrumental in clearing all the critical AOGs of Su-30 fleet and achieving 79% of serviceability. As Captain, he has brought up the Vajra Sports Complex at HQ EAC to truly one of the best. He has demonstrated exceptional organising capability and managed various sports events like Field Commanders' Cup, Air Force Cup and CAS Cup single headedly. During the visit of CAS to EAC, the officer shouldered both, the responsibilities of PMC, Officers' mess and Captain Vajra Sports Complex in an exemplary manner. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Achuthan Jayanthan.
