Details : Group Captain Hardeep Bains (19180) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on 19 Dec 87 He is presently posted as the Station Commander of a premier flying base of the Indian Air Force. Group Captain Hardeep Bains has over 5000 hrs of accident! incident free flying and has also been Commended by the CAS in 2001 and Commended twice by AOC-in-C on earlier occasions. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor with a Cat 'A rating and did his higher defence studies from the South Africa National War College in South Africa in 2002. He has flown various trainer and fighter aircraft including HPT-32. Kiran, MiG-21s, MiG-23 and Jaguar aircrafts. As the Station Commander of a premier flying base, Group Captain Hardeep Bains has been an epitome of a leader of men. He is a highly dedicated and sincere officer who takes all efforts to go into the details of any problem/ task and then find a solution for it. On taking over the station, he meticulously studied the shortcomings that affected the operational capabilities of the base and found long term and lasting solutions. Under his able leadership his Station undertook a number of innovations and modifications to ensure cost saving to the exchequer, optimum utilisation of the resources and enhancing operational life of the infrastructure and equipment. With his foresight and planning, repairs to bias pens were undertaken even within the meager station maintenance funds to expedite availability of these vital installations at all times. Under his leadership and guidance, the station has successfully carried out the difficult task of parking SU-30 aircraft in all the existing but comparatively small double entry pens and comprehensive procedures for the same were promulgated. The Station and all its lodger units have maintained. optimum operational readiness throughout his tenure. This would not have been possible without Group Captain Hardeep Bains focused approach towards operational readiness and goal oriented training with optimum emphasis on maintenance and administration. He has also made significant contribution towards improving the living standards of all personnel of the station which included renovation of most of the messes, establishment of a bar and an institute for all Air Warriors. 100% education for all children within the air force camp, developing comprehensive SOPs for various scenarios etc. He also takes regular classes for all Squadron Leaders and below to ensure their grooming into competent Aerospace leaders. Group Captain Hardeep Bains functioned as a team leader for a command level table top exercise involving a realistic scenario of crisis in Kutch sector and also represented SWAC on a seminar on leadership and provided valuable ideas to the challenges of building future aero space leadership. His deep involvement in these activities, thorough analysis and bringing up innovative ideas was commented favourably by both Command Air Staff and former Chiefs who attended these functions. For distinguished service of high order, Hon 'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Hardeep Bains.
