Details : Group Captain Shovit Jain (19078) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) branch on 05 Sep 87. He is posted to Air Headquarters as Director Air Staff Requirement (Simulators). Gp Capt Shovit Jain is a Category 'Pi Flight Engineer and a Right Test Engineer with over 3500 hours of flying on helicopters. He has been an Air Force Examiner for Flight Engineers in the Aircrew Examining Board. He has held numerous important field and staff appointments. He has contributed immensely as a Flight Test Engineer in enhancing operational capability of the helicopter fleet of Indian Air Force by his contribution in many important projects including single engine trials on the Mi-17 and Mi-17 IV, performance validation of the Mi-17 IV and weight reduction on Mi-26 while posted to Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment. While on deputation to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Group Captain Jain was the Flight Test Engineer for the Cheetal helicopter project and he was part of the flight crew that set the world record for landing at the highest altitude. As the Chief Engineering Officer of Air Force Station, Jammu his efforts and leadership ensured consistent achievement of 100% serviceability of the helicopters. He was posted to the Directorate of Air Staff Requirement in August 2008 and since then he has been involved in a number of major capital procurement cases of the Indian Air Force. His significant achievements include the case for procurement of the urgently required Basic Trainer Aircraft. The case was progressed in an extremely methodical, professional and efficient manner resulting in the successful culmination of the first contract based on Life Cycle Costing model. He was also responsible for finalising the case for procurement of C-17 aircraft following the Foreign Military Sale procedures. The officer with his ingenuity and foresight offered solutions for complex issues which were easily accepted by both officials of Ministry of Defence and officials of the Government of United States of America enabling expeditious completion of the contract. His balanced views, sound professional knowledge and capability to present the case in a logical manner contributed immensely to capability building of the Indian Air Force. The officer is recognised as an authority on Defence Procurement Procedures, Defence Offset Policy and Foreign Military Sale Procedures and is often asked for advice even from Ministry of Defence. His sound knowledge and professionalism has positively impacted modernisation drive of Indian Air Force and has showcased the professionalism of the Indian Air Force at various forums in Ministry of Defence and with other sister services. For distinguished service of a high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Shovit Jain.
