Details : | Group Captain Ashish Vohra (18801) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot in the flying branch on 13 Jun 87. He has been posted as the Station Commander of Air Force Station Bakshi-Ka-Talab since 23 Apr 2012. The officer is a Fighter Strike Leader, graduate of the Defence Services Staff College and College of Air Warfare. He has more than 2700 hours of fighter flying experience. During his service career, the officer has served as a Directing Staff at MiG Operational Flying Training Unit and Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment, CO of 22 Squadron, Chief Operations Officer of a fighter base and Director Personnel Officers-4 at Air HQ. As a Station Commander, he has displayed exemplary leadership and exceptional professionalism in achieving an extremely high degree of Operational Preparedness and significantly enhancing the Combat Potential of the station. Under his tutelage, the station's operational, administrative and maintenance standards have received a tremendous fillip. His regular flying, constant guidance and timely advice helped 35 Sqn achieve exceptional standards in its operational and maintenance tasks, inspite of operating a legacy aircraft. His supervision and support resulted in all aircrew of 35 Sqn being declared Day Ops and rated as per their experience. Under his supervision 2232 Sqn, another lodger unit of the station achieved the exceptional standard of two 'Direct Hits' during the live firing of P-Ill RPAs, inspite of the system being life expired and awaiting refurbishment by the OEM. The 'Best in Aerospace Safety', 2nd best 'Play School', 2nd best AFWWA Venture' trophies in CAC during 2012-13 are reflective of the officer's extraordinary penchant for work. The in-principle approval by Air HQ for the station's upgradation to a Wing (38 Wing), the speedy movement of the station Comprehensive Proposal to MoD for acquisition of additional 300 acres of land, the near successful endeavour to acquire additional 6.5 acres of land at Asthi road inspite of absence of revenue maps are testimony to the officer's involvement and initiative. Facelift to the Station Canteen and Shopping Complex, speedy construction of the Air Warriors' Institute and Station Briefing Cum Examination Hall reflect the officer's focus on morale enhancement of air warriors. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Ashish Vohra. |
