Details : Group Captain Samir Vishwanathrao Borade (18761) Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) was commissioned in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) Branch on 16 Feb 87. During the past 24 years, Gp Capt Borade has contributed towards improving the Op capability and maintain ability of fighter fleets in general and MiG-29 in particular. He has worked in MiG-29 Squadrons, a MiG-29 Tech Flight and MiG-29 overhaul line. Besides this, the officer has been a Maint Inspector in DMI and also commanded Workshop Training Institute (WTI). Since 22 Jun 09, Gp Capt Borade is functioning as C Eng 0 A at HQ MC. As Senior Production Engineer at 11 BRD, the officer was instrumental in setting up the overhaul facilities for MiG-29 and undertook various studies including life extension of MiG-29 ac and its components. This endeavor contributed towards optimal operational exploitation of the MiG-29 fleet. As Joint Director (Maintenance Inspection), the officer initiated Joint Quality Audits of various and conceptualized a new inspection philosophy. The concept of 'Self Audit': suggesting three levels of inspection is now a well established system and has improved the functioning of units. As CO of WTI, Gp Capt Borade implemented major changes in training concepts and initiated "Battle Damage Repair" course to improve the war time repair capability of. R&SU teams. As C Eng 0 A at HQ MC, Gp Capt Borade has acted as a catalyst to resolve techno-logistics issues of all the fighter fleets. Due to his vast aircraft experience, the officer has provided necessary impetus towards improvement in fighter fleet serviceability, expeditious help to the Op Units, Infrastructure development and aircraft modifications at the BRDs. Modification of wing feed pipelines of MiG-29 ac, resolving criticality of MiG-29 ejection seats conceptualising replacement of obsolete Radio Altimeter system of MiG-23 trainer and initiating life extension for the landing gears of MiG-29 ac, are few examples of the vision and profession acumen of the officer. These initiatives would go a long way in sustaining the serviceability of the fleets and substantial financial savings. The officer is a post graduate in Aerospace Structure and is also a graduate of the Defence Service Staff College. Gp Capt Borade leads by example and inspires his subordinates to achieve the highest standards as a well knit team. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Samir Vishwanath Rao Borade.
