Details : | Air Commodore Vangal Krishnaswamy Sashindran (18695-R) Med was commissioned in the Medical Branch in Dec 86. He is presently serving as Professor and Head of Department, geriatric Medicine at Armed Force College (AFMC) since 14 Ju12014. He contributed immensely and single handedly in setting up the new speciality. He has specialized in the field of Infectious diseases and was awarded the Fogarty International Fellowship of AIDS research in 2004. Air Commodore Sashindran has earlier served as Staff surgeon to the Chief of Air-Staff and as Senior Advisor Medicine at Air Force Central Medical Establishment where he set up the Lifestyle Diseases Research Centre. An intrepid mountaineer, he has led several expeditions in uncharted regions in the Karakorams and Arunachal Pradesh for the Air Force Adventure Cell. At AFMC, he has initiated many innovative teaching practices in Medical Education to develop compassion and a caring attitude among students. He has instituted integrated teaching across disciplines. The multi-disciplinary Infectious Diseases round is a case in point. He guides the activities of the Students' Scientific Society and is the driving force behind Undergraduate Medical Research in AFMC. His hard work has led to him winning many accolades and publications. He goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that his students excel in their field and was voted as the best teacher for six years in succession. His passion for teaching remains undiminished. He is the epitome of compassion and professionalism making him a role model for aspiring physicians and officers.
