Details : Group Captain Anil Sabharwal (18553) Flying (Pilot) was commissioned into the Flying (Pilot) Branch on 06 Dec 86 with the overall best cadet trophy at Fighter Training Wing (FTW). He is a Category 'A' Qualified Flying Instructor, a Fighter Combat Leader and a Graduate from the Defence Services Command and Staff College at Bangladesh with the best overseas officer award. He is Commanding Air Force Station Sirsa since 21 Dec 09. The officer has previously held appointments of Chief Instructor (Cl) at FTW, Joint Director Staff Duties (JD SD) at Air Headquarters, Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron and Deputy Commandant at Tactics and Combat Development Establishment (TACDE). As Cl at FTW, he revamped the entire stage II Flying and Ground Training syllabi, making them more contemporary and relevant. As JD SD, he was instrumental in implementation of mandatory In-Service Training concept for the officer cadre of IAF. At TACDE, he supervised the first course conducted by the establishment at its new location, and also wrote the Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Combat manual which formed the basis of current BVR tactics. For his pioneering efforts, he was awarded the CAS commendation in 2003. As Station Commander at Sirsa, the officer has brought in vast enhancement in the op capability, especially with respect to maintenance and upkeep of the war-waging infrastructure. He has been instrumental in the operationalisation of the strategic assets placed at his disposal. With his fore-sight and planning skills, he has meticulously charted the road-map for station's expansion programme for the forthcoming decade. His clarity of thought, knowledge of accounting procedures and command of written language have helped the station to project works services in record times, and maintain an observation-free budget year in all code heads. He has laid special emphasis on improving the quality of life of air warriors and their families, thereby raising the station happiness quotient manifolds. Under his able leadership, the station has bagged the Best in Administration Trophy and the Best Primary School Trophies in IAF as well as in WAC. The award of such trophies bears testimony to his excellent organizational capability, dedication to duty and tenacity. For distinguished services of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Anil Sabharwal.
