Details : | Group Captain Anjani Gopal Bandyopadhyay (18501) was commissioned in Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) branch on 25 Aug 86. He has held the appointment of Chief of Rotables, 1 Base Repair Depot (BRD) in 1995, wherein he was deeply involved in setting up of overhaul facilities of AN-32 aircraft and its aggregates. As Material Planning and Technology Officer at 3 BRD, he was directly associated in design, development and fabrication of test rigs of various aggregates, which were not supplied by OEM. As Command Maintenance and Aero Safety Officer at HQ Training Command, he was instrumental in overall improvement of Maintenance Safety, clearance of Defect Investigation and Courts of Inquiry of various aircraft accident incident. The officer is trained in Kiev (Ukraine) for overhaul of AN-32 aircraft and its aggregates. He has also successfully undergone Higher Defence Management Course at CDM. For his professionalism and selfless dedication to duty. he has been commended twice by the Chief of Air Staff. in Jan 1998 and Jan 2009. The Officer is a highly dedicated professional, who has a lot of experience and expertise on the AN-32 aircraft and Aero-Engine overhaul technology, which he continuously applies for the development and adoption of alternate improved technology. With his resilience, he has ensured the overhaul of five AN-32 aircraft and more than 12,000 rotables during production year 2012-13, leading to higher availability of aircraft at field units. He has meaningfully pursued reclamation of a large number of components and rotables. such as axle of Main Landing Gear of AN-32 aircraft, which would have otherwise been rendered beyond economical use. The Total Technical Life Extension (TILE) and Re-equipment project of AN-32 aircraft had encountered a roadblock due to non supply of spares. He has spearheaded the indigenous development of more than 500 spares to progress the project forward and reduce dependence on foreign OEM. He has also been instrumental in indigenisation of 23 Instrument Panels, for the first time in IAF, which were critically required for AN-32 RE aircraft. During the production year, two damaged AN-32 aircraft were repaired and recovered in record time. Under his able leadership, skid boards and cradles were designed, developed and produced in record time to enable bombing from AN-32 aircraft. These dedicated efforts have led to saving of more than Rs 80 Crore to the exchequer. His professional and effective leadership has earned 1 BRD the trophy of `Best Aircraft Depot of Maintenance Command for 2012. For distinguished service of high order.
