Details : Group Captain Rajapantula Subbarao (18438) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) branch on 18 Aug 1986. During his service, the officer has held many important assignments and contributed immensely towards the technical growth and development of the IAF While posted as Senior Engineering Officer (SEa) at National Defence Academy (NDA) during 2001-03, he inducted Super Dimona Aircraft and formulated its servicing. He was also responsible for the induction of Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) aircraft while posted at Air Headquarters Communication Squadron (AHCS) and also formulated and executed Aircraft Support Agreement for BBJ. He formulated FollowOn Support (FOS) and Mission Ready Maintenance Service (MRMS)contract for Embraer aircraft (ac). While posted at Base Repair Depot, Sulur, he indigenised many spares for AVRO, Dornier and Jaguar aircraft, notable being Lock Pins for Avro and Cartridge Holder assembly for Jaguar ac. The officer is presently on the posted strength of Air Force Station New Delhi (AFND) since 14 Jan 13 and performing the duties of Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) of the base. This base is maintaining more than 500 vehicles. He, with his focused approach, has ensured a high degree of vehicle availability and promptness in NCR to cater for myriad requirements. He has consistently maintained a high serviceability state of 99.5% for MT vehicles over last one year in spite of the vintage models of vehicles, thus contributing to high satisfaction amongst the clientele. He has introduced a method of 'proactive and preventive' maintenance on vehicles like Scorpio Starter Brush checks, radiator flushing on Ambassadors, steering and brake mechanism on coaches/school buses to prevent vehicle break-down. He also introduced the in-house overhaul of Ambassador cars which have completed more than 2.25 lakh km and painting of heavy vehicles and light duty common vehicles, thus achieving savings to the tune of thirty lakhs to the exchequer. He persistently pushed the progress of installation of Automatic Vehicle Wash Plant, the first of its kind in defence environment, which enables automatic washing of all types of vehicles, thus saving man hours and reducing water consumption. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Group Captain Rajapantula Subbarao.
