Details : Air Commodore Anirban Bhattacharyya (17287) was commissioned in the Indian Air Force as an engineer in the Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) branch on 22 Aug 83 and has held important appointments in premium aircraft bases, friendly foreign governments, Comd HQ and Air HQ. In his first posting itself at 2204 Sqn the officer was adjudged exceptional by DASI. While he was the STO of 2212 Sqn, the squadron was awarded the best Pechora Sqn and the best combat team. As a Squadron Leader, the officer was posted to 40 Wg as officer in - charge II Line RDM Bay. The Officer was instrumental in the recovery of two test benches in short time which resulted in increased availability of LRUs and reduction of expenditure. During his tenure in 7 Sqn as EO and STO, the Officer formulated maintenance SOPs for flight line maintenance that are in vogue till date. The Officer went on deputation to the Botswana Defence Force where his adaptation, ingenuity and creativity in drafting SOPs and maintenance philosophy was greatly appreciated. On his return to IAF, the Officer was posted to M-2000 Directorate at Air HQ. Here the officer played a stellar role in regularizing of PR/SR and availability of critical spares in the M-2000 fleet. His personal involvement ensured that all outstanding issues regarding M-2000 were promptly cleared. For the exceptional job done at Air HQ the Officer was commended by the CAS during this tenure. The Officer was next posted to 40 Wg as SE(L) where the Ilnd Line bays were facing problems of obsolescence. The Officer carried out an audit of the test benches and suggested remedial measures to combat obsolescence. His exceptional knowledge and involvement resulted in indigenization of a large number of testers. On his promotion to Gp Capt the Officer was posted as CEO to AFA which operated the HPT-32 aircraft. These aircraft were highly prone to snags and engine cuts. With his innovative approach and commitment, engine cuts were significantly reduced. AFA during his tenure enjoyed the maximum availability of FIPT-32 aircraft. The Officer was posted as Sr Member (Tech) to DAS (Air HQ RKP) thereafter where he carried out a study on Human Error in Aircraft Maintenance which has now become a template for analysis of HE(S). Air Cmde A Bhattacharyya is now posted to HQ CAC as C Eng 0. The Officer has been key to increasing aircraft availability in CAC AOR. With his foresight and planning the Officer was instrumental in recovering 29 AOG aircraft within one year. Air Cmde A Bhattacharyya played significant role in planning of the maintenance aspects in Phase-II of Ex Live wire which saw an exceptional number of successful missions in CAC AOR. With such involvement and commitment, it is natural that he has a remarkable command and control of over the Air warriors placed under him. The Officer leads by example and is a role model for many. For distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Air Commodore Anirban Bhattacharyya. 99
