Details : Group Captain Sanjeev Wasudevrao Gosewade (16816) Flying (Pilot)was commissioned in the Flying Branch on 04 Jun 82. During his 26 years of distinguished service he has held the challenging appointments of FIt Cdr of a VIP Transport Sqn, CO of a frontline Air Defence Combat Sqn, President Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) and Directing Staff at DSSC. He is presently commanding a Strategic Air lift Sqn since 03 Sep 07. An accomplished professional, he has participated in numerous operational exercises and has brought laurels to the IAF In the year 1993 he flew various missions successfully in the war torn Somalia with VIPs of three Services on board. As FIt Cdr of a VVIP Sqn he has demonstrated exceptional professionalism and meticulousness while flying the VIPs and VVIPs of India and foreign countries. As a Commanding Officer of an IL-76 Sqn he has been instrumental in improving the Category State, operational status of aircrew and aircraft serviceability which in turn has helped the Sqn completing all the assigned operational tasks in the most befitting manner. Under his Command the Sqn has brought laurels to the country and IAF by undertaking numerous humanitarian relief missions in China, Myanmar and Bangladesh which has also earned the appreciation from VCAS. Leading from the front he has flawlessly executed the first. ever Indian Army deployment to China in Ex Hand-in Hand. His initiative and innovative ideas helped the Station Officers' Mess to achieve higher qualitative standards. His inspiring leadership, faith in subordinates and motivation has brought all round growth and achievement for the Sqn despite various constraints while operating from Nagpur. Under his Command the Sqn has been awarded the prestigious CAS Citation in Oct 08. In the recent Ex Red Flag 08, he led the participating team of aircrew and maintenance crew and achieved brilliant success in the Ex. While leading the IL-76 in various missions during this Ex he along with his crew earned praise from all quarters including ACAS (Ops) and PO (Ops T&H) for its professional skills and superior performance. For exceptional devotion to duty, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Group Captain Sanjeev Wasudevrao Gosewade.
