Details : Group Captain Pradeep Kharbanda (15674) Medical was commissioned in the IAF on 30 March 1979. He graduated from AFMC Pune. As Senior Adviser (Av Med) he is presently posted as Deputy Principal medical officer (DPMO) at HQ Western Air Command (WAC) since 01 May 2006. The officer has undergone important Service courses including senior Cdrs' course, advanced course in Aviation Medicine (Av Med) and DSSC. He has achieved exceptional grading in most of the courses. He stood first in primary and advanced Av Med course. He is MD in Av Med, MSc in Defence Studies, MD in Alternate Medicine and PG Diploma holder in Medico-Legal Sciences. As an aviation specialist he has served in various operational commands of the IAE During his tenure as SMO, AF Station Bagdogra, the Station won the best Station Medicare Centre (SMC) award of Eastern Air Command. He has served in two prestigious medical establishments. At Institute of Aerospace medicine (lAM), apart from being HOD Dept of High-Altitude Physiology and Hyperbaric Medicine and Chief Instructor he has edited Indian Journal of Aerospace Medicine as well as administratively controlled the official website of Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine. With his initiative, the Indian Journal of Aerospace medicine was brought on the World Wide Web (www) on the nic.net. While at Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), he trained himself as an ISO auditor and played a central role in earning the coveted ISO 9001:2000 certification for AFCME, the first of its kind. During his present tenure as DPMO at HQ WAC, he has excelled towards the overall improvement and functioning of the PMO Section and all medical establishments under this Command. With his innovative ideas there has been a complete facelift of the PMO Section with total computerization of all sub-sections. The officer has been instrumental in bringing all medical units on WACNET facilitating dissemination of all advisories and policies online thereby saving both time and considerable resources for the organization. Based on his initiative and persuasion, AOC-in-C had specially assigned him the task of computerizing all the medical establishments under this Command. 200 high-end computers with network printers have been centrally procured and distributed to all units has brought about a quantum leap in the working efficiency of SMCs, Hospitals & Dental centres with optimization of existing manpower. Completion of local and wide area networking in SMCs will revolutionize the medical services in WAC. The officer's keenness in improving the system through analysis of the data and issuing advisories to the Units has resulted in considerable decrease in preventable diseases. He has played a pivotal role in modernizing all SMCs under WAC by working out requirements of medical equipment for each unit and then taking it up with Air HQ. Few of these items have also been included in the medical stores scales. In the chain of ECHS helpline also this officer has played a key role in allaying the miseries and sufferings of ECHS personnel in their moments of need. Group Captain Kharbanda is very innovative in his approach and has demonstrated a humane approach while dealing with all personnel. He has always led from the front with a sense of pride in performing his duty at all times. His dynamism to achieve targets for any task assigned makes his conduct exemplary. His professional competence combined with his positive approach and excellent disposition, has set an example for others to follow. For his distinguished service of high order, Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Group Captain Pradeep Kharbanda.
