Air Commodore Gurdarshan Singh Joneja (13958) Med was commissioned on 16 Jan 75. A graduate and a postgraduate from AFMC Pune, he is a Gynaecologist whose illustrious career has culminated in his appointment as the Consultant to the Armed Forces at the most prestigious Army Hospital (R&R).

He is an outstanding personality with a high degree of professionalism, clinical expertise and leadership qualities. Under his stewardship as Consultant to the Armed Forces, the field of Gynaecology has revolutionized to the most modern and high-tech speciality through provision of the latest medical equipments at the peripheral hospitals.

He has brought up the Dept of Gynaecology at Army Hospital (R&R) as the foremost tertiary care centre for Endoscopic Surgery, Gynaecologic Oncololgy and Infertility Management. A pioneer in the field of keyhole surgery, he has himself carried out a number of complicated endoscopic surgeries. Under his guidance, the Assisted Reproductive Centre, the only one of its kind in public sector, has attained National and International repute. His visionary approach has made Test-tube baby a reality for infertile couples thus realizing their dreams of parenthood.

His professional achievements have brought him laurels and recognition through appointments to various Expert Committees of Ministry of Health, visiting professorship and examinership of a number of Universities. His research work and various publications have been recognized in various National and International forums.

Air Commodore Gurdarshan Singh Joneja has shown foresight, perseverance and dedication of the highest order to his profession. He is a rare combination of clinician, academician and administrator.

For his extraordinary contribution to the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Air Commodore Gurdarshan Singh Joneja.
