Air Vice Marshal Ajit Prasad Tyagi (13010) Meteorology was commissioned on 30 Dec 1972 in the Meteorology Branch of the IAF. In 32 years of distinguished service he has held several important appointments that include Senior Meteorological Officer of Fighter Bases, Project Scientist at the Centre for Atmospheric Services, Directing Staff at AFAC, Command Meteorological Officer at Commands HQ and Principal Director Information Technology at Air HQ. He is post-graduate in Physics from BITS, Pilani and Ph.D. in Numerical Weather Prediction. The officer has undergone Advance Met Course and Long Defence Management Course (LDMC). Presently he is Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Meteorology) at Air HQ.

Right from the initial stage in IAF, Air Vice Marshal Tyagi has been actively engaged in the Research and Investigation Studies connected with operational meteorological problems and has more than thirty papers published in leading journals. Whilst being the Project Scientist with Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, he developed Regional Numerical Weather Prediction Model and gained in-depth knowledge and vast experience in data processing on mainframe computers like ICL 2900, Cyber 170, NEC S-1000 and Cray X-MP Super computer.

Air Vice Marshal Tyagi was appointed as Director Information Technology wef 19 Nov 2001. As a Director, he displayed high degree of initiative, drive and organizing capabilities by establishing Software development centre, hardware repair facilities at Air HQ Computer Centre and introducing advanced computer training in the IAF. In spite of manpower constraints, he planned and successfully implemented first phase of Camp Area Network (CAN) Project at Air Force Station Pathankot and supervised in house software development for a fighter Sqn and Operational Risk Management (ORM). The officer has been instrumental in formulating IT Roadmap for IAF.

For his distinguished service of high order, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Air Vice Marshal Ajit Prasad Tyagi.
