Air Commodore Indu Bhaal Bhasin (12871) Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) was commissioned on 05 Jul 1971 in the Technical Armament Branch of the IAF. In 32 years of distinguished service, he has held several important command and staff appointments that include Chief Engineering Officer of a prime fighter base, Commanding Officer (CO) of a Technical Training Institute, Production, Planning and Coordination Officer in a Base Repair Depot. He is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff College. Presently he is Principal Director Weapon Systems at Air Headquarters.

As Chief Engineering Officer of a fighter base, Air Cmde Bhasin was the guiding force behind several innovative maintenance activities which resulted in sustained high serviceability and maintenance support to operating squadrons during 'Op Parakram'. Recovery of eight AI-30F engines of Su-30K aircraft by undertaking compressor blade change in the R&S was the most noteworthy achievement which resulted in saving of several million dollars to the state.

As CO of a Technical Training Institute he adopted several innovative methods to produce 100% results for all the courses that passed during his tenure. Simultaneously, while improving the percentage of trainees achieving LAC grading to an all time high of 26% for the institute.

As Principal Director Engineering D, he is responsible for the maintenance of transport and helicopter fleets of the IAF. He has marshaled his resources well to ensure completion of important modifications on transport and helicopter fleets and preparation for UN mission abroad which required bringing up several helicopters to mission standard within a short span of time.

For his commitment and distinguished service of high order, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vishisht Seva Medal' to Air Commodore Indu Bhaal Bhasin.
