Details : | Wg Cdr Ashok Shivasangappa Umbarje was commissioned on 12 Jun 71 and has been in Command of a combat squadron since 13 May 91. He has to his credit over 3600 hours of flying and is at the threshold of the exclusive club of aviators with 5000 sorties on MiG-21. During his Command, eleven ab-initio pilots were declared fully operational and 10 pilots were declared day Ops. The squadron carried out this high level of training while maintaining a zero accident rate. During Wg Cdr AS Umbarje's tenure, the squadron was inspected twice by Air Crew Examiner Board and once by the Directorate of Air Staff Inspection team. On these occasions, the squadron achieved a very high rating in all disciplines viz. Operations, Maintenance and Administration. Under his dynamic leadership, the squadron won overall first position. It was also adjudged 'Best Combat Squadron' in South Western Air Command for 1992. For exceptional devotion to duty and dynamic leadership, the President is pleased to award Vayu Sena Medal to Wg Cdr AS Umbarje. | |||
