Details :

Wg Cdr VK Gandhi was commissioned as an aeronautical Engineer in the IAF in Jul 1970.

He has been entrusted with onerous responsibilities such as Officer-in-Charge AN-32 production at a Base Repair Depot and Air Force Inspector with Directorate of Air Staff Inspection. Wg Cdr Gandhi was justifiably selected as Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) of a wing to remedy its perpetual maintenance problems.

A thorough professional with in-depth knowledge of Aircraft systems, Wg Cdr Gandhi has been able to rectify various complicated snags, for which HAL help was necessitated during the past. By meticulous planning and effective leadership, the Central Repair and Servicing Section (CR&SS) at the Wing carried out 39 inspections and effected 11 engine changes. In addition, he brought five aircraft on line which were on long AOG (Aircraft Operationally Grounded) within six months. The aircraft serviceability rose from a low of 59% to 73%.

Wg Cdr Gandhi made valuable contribution by way of interacting with agencies like HAL and suggested improvements which were accepted and implemented by HAL.

For distinguished service of high order, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Wg Cdr VK Gandhi.
