Details :

Wg Cdr SC Kumar was commissioned in the Navigator Branch of the Indian Air Force on 29 Dec 68. Over the years, he has carried out 4640 hours of flying on a variety of aircraft; excelling in each. He has been holding the exceptional flying category 'A' for nearly a decade on Avro and modern B-737 aircraft. He is also a Qualified Navigation Instructor.

Wg Cdr Kumar was appointed Commanding Officer of the Navigation & Signal School on 16 Nov 86. He took over this Command at a crucial juncture, as the training of ab-initio navigators had remained suspended for the preceding four years. Through professionalism and sheer hard work, WG Cdr Kumar not only achieved the desired task but also set high standards of training.

After the successful command of Navigation & Signal School, Wg Cdr SC Kumar was given his present challenging appointment of Deputy Director (VIP) in the Directorate of Operations (T&M) at Air HQ on 03 Oct 88. The officer displayed flawless planning when he had to face the mammoth task of providing VVIP airlifts during the Lok Sabha elections in Nov 89.

For his devotion to duty, sincerity of purpose and capacity for sustained hark work, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Wg Cdr SC Kumar.
