During the operations against Pakistan in December, 1971, Flight Lieutenant Perminder Jit Singh Sidhu was serving as a pilot with a Fighter Bomber Squadron. He flew a number of operational missions deep inside enemy territory in the Eastern as well as Western Sectors. In the Eastern Sector, while flying as a wing man on a mission to Gaibanda ferry, he damaged the ferry and a number of steamships. Later, he carried out offensive missions and destroyed trains and marshalling yards in Rangpur-Bogra Sector, In the Western Sector, he led an offensive mission in the Siddinya Canal area and caused heavy damage to the bridges across the canal and enemy bunkers. All these missions were carried out in the face of heavy enemy ground fire and air opposition. Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Perminder Jit Singh Sidhu displayed courage, professional skill and devotion to duty. |
