DEFEXPO INDIA '99: A PHOTO FEATURE

The Ministry of Defence, Government of India, hosted its first International Land and Naval Systems Exhibition - Defexpo India' 99 at New Delhi from 12-16 October 1999 in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). All Defence Public Undertakings, the Department of Defence Research & Development and its laboratories and Indian industries related to the field of land and naval systems participated in this event. Defexpo India' 99 showcased all aspects of defence technologies available in India as well as a wide spectrum of land & naval systems produced by leading manufacturers around the world. The event also encompassed a seminar for technical presentations, and interaction with specialists in the field.

Vaibhav Sharma covered the exhibition on behalf of Bharat Rakshak and brought back great photos and a ton of information. A selection of photos is presented.

Three views of a pre-production prototype of the Arjun Mk.I MBT.

There are now 32 vehicles in existence, including twelve prototypes, 15 pre-production prototypes, two torsion-bar versions, one test vehicle, one recovery tank and one Mk.II vehicle.

The first photos of upgraded Indian T-72M1s sporting ERA (Explosive Reactive Armour).

Upgraded under 'Operation Bison', it is expected that a significant number of the Army's T-72M1s, will be fitted with;

1] VHF radios
2] More powerful engines
3] LNS (Land Navigation Systems)
4] ERA (Explosive Reactive Armour)
5] Next-generation fire-control systems
6] Advanced nuclear, biological & chemical (NBC) equipment.

 

The NAMICA (Nag Missile Carrier) launch vehicle for the land version of the Nag, a third generation, all weather, top-attack, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile undergoing trials with the Indian Army.

The missiles are mounted on a modified BMP chassis which carries four missiles in a ready-to-fire mode on the turret. The launchers can be reloaded from within the hull without exposing the crew on the battlefield.

Two views of the South African Denel T-6 155mm 52 caliber artillery system mounted on an Arjun chassis. The system is known as the 'Bhim' in India. More Details Here....
