INS HANSA

INS Hansa is located at Dabolim in Goa and was commissioned on 05 September 1961. The base is home to the Indian Navy's premier air squadrons including INAS 300 White Tigers with the Sea Harrier fighter squadron, INAS 310 Cobras with the Do-228 information warfare squadron, INAS 315 Winged Stallions with the IL-38 maritime reconnaissance squadron, INAS 551 Phantoms with the HJT-16 Kiran training squadron and INAS 552 with the Sea Harrier training squadron. A major maintenance facility for the Tu-142M and IL-38 maritime recon aircraft and for the Ka-28 helicopters is also located at this base. This naval air station, which serves as the Indian Navy's largest airbase, has grown to become a full-fledged airfield that handles both domestic as well as international flights round the clock. The MiG-29K air defense fighter will be based at this base when they arrive in 2007. The Indian Navy recently spent Rs.13 crore to resurface the runway at INS Hansa, in preparation for the arrival of the MiG-29K.
