Southern Naval Command

The Southern Naval Command, with its HQ in Cochin (Kochi), is commanded by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, currently Vice Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi. The SNC is the Indian Navy's main training command and is equipped with professional naval establishments, a naval air station, and a ship repair yard. It is also home to INS Dronacharya, a trials establishment center. It is here, where naval variants of the Trishul SAM are tested. The base also undertakes training of naval and coast guard personnel in all aspects of naval missile and gunnery systems.

INS Venduruthy, located at Cochin, is the premier professional training institution for both, officers and sailors of the Executive/Seaman branch. There are numerous training schools under INS Venduruthy, which impart specialist training in field like Navigation & Direction, Seamanship, Gunnery, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Communications & Electronic Warfare, Leadership, Tactics, Underwater Diving, etc.
