Pak commandos could sneak into Orissa in disguise
(Sify News, 28 May 2002)

Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Raman Puri informed the Orissa Government officials in a high-level meeting that there was every possibility of Pakistani commandos entering the state in disguise in the event of a war between the two countries. Vice Admiral Puri had a discussion with State Chief Secretary D.P. Bagchi, Home Secretary Tarunkanti Mishra and State Director General of Police N.C. Padhi. At the meeting he stated that Pakistani commandos in disguise could take the sea route to enter Orissa and destroy sensitive defence and other establishments.

The Indian Navy has given the State a lot of attention as it has the longest coastline (450 km). The ports - Paradip, Dhamra, Gopalpur and Chandipur apart from the HAL factory MiG planes production unit at Sunabeda and the missile centre at Saintala could be some of the prime targets. Security has been tightened at these places. A State Maritime Board would be formed on the lines of those in Maharashtra and Gujrat to control the ports of the State. Since the Pakistani commandos are likely to enter disguised as fishermen, the State police has been asked to keep a close eye on the movement of boats. The Coast Guard has also been asked to keep a strict vigil.
