Vessel Type: Inshore Minesweeper.

Displacement: 77 tons standard.

Main Machinery: Two diesel engines with 600 hp sustained and 2 shafts.

Maximum Speed: 11 knots.

Maximum Range: 300 miles at 10 knots.

Complement: 10 (incl. 1 officer).

Radar: Navigation; One (NATO: Spin Trough) radar at I-band frequency.

Sonar: One MG-7 small transducer streamed over the stern on a crane.

Weapons: Two 25mm/80 twin guns.

Comments: A mid-1960s Russian design with GRP (glass reinforced plastic) hulls built at Kolpino, Russia. All vessels are based at Kochi and undertake various operational commitments such as mine counter-measure exercises, harbour defencevisits to various minor ports and search & rescue missions. The Magdala completed nearly 18 years of service and covered over 45,000 nautical miles. This vessel also paid a goodwill visit to Male (the capital city of Maldives) in October 1989. The Malvan completed nearly 20 years of service and covered over 59,004 nautical miles. The Magrol completed nearly 21 years of service and covered 54,667 nautical miles.
