Comments: Ordered from ABG Shipyards in Goa, these vessels were built to a design from Thornycroft Maritime & Associates of Australia. The ships were constructed from materials and equipment provided by Thornycroft Maritime through technology transfer and CKD (Complete Knocked Down) material delivery, which together with the provision of skilled supervision, ensured in a highly successful project and an outstanding result for the Indian Coast Guard. The first pair are to be followed by a further eleven vessels of the same type and class, for which the contract has been signed and construction of these vessels began by mid-2005. ABG Shipyards reports that these eleven vessels will be delivered at an interval of three months each, beginning from October 2007 and ending in May 2010. An option for an additional five has also been taken by the Indian Coast Guard.
