Comments: Ordered from
Anderson Marine Pvt Ltd, Goa in September 1990 to a P-2000 design by Amgram and
is similar to the
British Archer Class. These vessels feature a GRP (Glassfiber Reinforced
Polyester) hull and superstructure. Half the batch was built at Goa and the other half at Cochin. The boats are based at
Mandapam, Mangalore, Visakhapatnam, Okha and Goa and one vessel is on lease to
Mauritius. These vessels, by virtue of their size and speed, can be rapidly
deployed off the coast especially for shallow water operations. They are useful
in situations requiring quick response such as search & rescue, casualty
evacuation from ships, emergency operations and sealing of river mouths on
receipt of intelligence reports. They are used for patrolling the coast,
interdiction of smugglers & infiltrators and search & rescue operations.
