The converted Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation, ex-Air India, operated in the maritime role - despite their manifest unsuitability for the task - for many years, the last being withdrawn at the end of 1983. Despite arduous, long-endurance missions, they were operated by the Indian Navy without mishap. Seen here is IN 315 in the 1970s.
