Main Machinery: Powered by two MTU 12V 538 TB 82 diesel engines, each generating 1480 KW at 1840 rpm.

Weapons: Five vessels in the series (CGS 221 - 225) have a Russian 30mm automatic 2A4Z cannon, which replaced the earlier Bofors 40mm/60 gun. The last three in the series (CGS 226 - 228) will have their Bofors guns replaced with the 30mm cannon. This Russian cannon is manufactured under license by the Ordnance Factory at Medak and they have an effective range of 5.4 km. It has been modified with visual sights, mounted on an improvised cupola and is fitted with a medium machine gun firing 2000 rounds a minute. It has telescopic night vision and can also be remotely operated. These vessels also carry a pair of 7.62mm machine guns on board.

Comments: These vessels are intended for patrol duties in unrestricted waters and is designed for operation under tropical conditions. The boats are fully air conditioned and the hull form is based on experience on well proven designs of similar types and confirmed by extensive model tests and feature twin screw propulsion. They are ideal for hot pursuits & capture operations, with high speed and excellent manoeuvrability. They perform the following duties;

Search & Rescue (SAR) operations.
• Maintaing surveillance of the exclusive economic zones.
Surveying the movements of merchant ships and warships close to national territories.
Surveying and protection of fishing areas in territorial waters and oil prospecting areas.
Participating in anti-guerrilla action, protections against illegal immigrants and smuggling.
