Type: Multi-role military turboprop twin engine aircraft.
Avionics: The Indian Army's Do-228s will have a different avionics suite when compared to the variants which serve in the Indian Air Force or the Indian Navy. Since the aircraft are expected to be used mainly for the purposes of liaison in the Indian Army, it is assumed that only basic flight instruments and navigation systems will be on board.
Engine: Two AlliedSignal TPE331-5-252D engines rated at 578.7 kW (776 shp). Each engine has a four blade, constant speed, fully feathering, reversible pitch, metal propeller.

Comments: Purchased from Germany principally to be used as a light transport aircraft in the Indian Air Force, they are also used in a variety of roles in the Indian Navy and in the Indian Coast Guard. Now the Indian Army is expected to order seven aircraft for the purposes of liaison.
