Chief of Integrated Service Command (CISC)

Lieutenant General Hardev Singh Lidder assumed charge as the third Chief of Integrated Service Command (CISC) on 02 March 2006. The CISC is an interim arrangement to look after the integration of the defence services under the proposed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) plan. He is responsible to provide assistance and reports to the Chairman of the COSC (Chiefs of Staff Committee), currently General Joginder Jaswant Singh, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the planning process and bring about the jointness amongst the Indian Armed Forces. The post of CISC will become the Vice Chief of Defence Staff (VCDS) once the CDS, who would be permanently presiding over the COSC comprising the three service chiefs, is appointed. The CISC is supported by a Joint Integrated Defence Staff (JIDS) with elements from the three services and various departments in the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of External Affairs.

Lieutenant General Singh, a fourth generation army officer, is a recipient of the Sword of Honour for the best all-round performance at the Indian Military Academy (IMA). He was commissioned into the Deccan Horse, one of the oldest regiments of the Armoured Corps, in July 1967. A graduate of the Staff College at Camberley in Britain, he has served in Jammu and Kashmir and as an instructor with the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan. His last tenure was as the Commander-in-Chief of the tri-services Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC). He has held several prestigious appointments at Army Headquarters, New Delhi and was also the Military Attaché in the Indian Embassy in the United States for three years.
