ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

At Air Headquarters in New Delhi, the Chief of Air Staff is assisted by the;

• Vice-Chief of Air Staff; Responsible for all aspects of plans, programs, project groups, financial planning, air staff requirements (ASR), training systems and evaluation come under the jurisdiction of the VCAS. Additionally all the aspects relating to flying, reconnaissance & intelligence also come under purview of the VCAS.

• Deputy Chief of Air Staff; Responsible for air defence, operations (transport, maritime and others) flight safety, meteorology, Air Staff inspections and planning of joint operations. The office of Air Intelligence comes directly under the DCAS.

• Air Officer in Charge of Administration; Looks after the pay, pensions, regulations and accounting in the IAF. Alongside medical services, legal and provost matters, ceremonials & other in-house organizations come under his purview.

• Air Officer in Charge of Maintenance; Responsible for all aspects of the provisioning and maintenance of aircraft & stores, engineering services & support and military transport. All aspects of grounds electronics, armament, safety equipment and plans and inspections also come under him.

• Air Officer in Charge of Personnel; Responsible for all aspects of personnel within the service, starting from recruitment, terms of service, discipline to postage, promotions and welfare of the servicemen.

• Inspector General Flight Safety & Inspection; Responsible for all aspects of flight safety and inspection of aircraft and ensuring of compliance by staff of the regulations and rules.

These six Principal Staff Officers are assisted by Assistant Chiefs of Air Staff.
